NPR: Wash Your Hands Comments
The article that I read is about raising the debt ceiling and whether Congress should raise it or not. Although the debt is ridiculously high, I feel that the money we have borrowed in the past has been used, to some extent, to provide better living conditions for Americans. I feel that our government needs to do a better job of managing financial resources that it takes from Americans. Our government needs to tax the wealthiest more than the proposed 39% that would occur if Obama were to get his way. The wealthiest paid as much as 90% in 1945 and are paying 35% today.
In addition, the government must carefully plan for the future or we will have fewer services available to us because we will be paying off the debt. If I had to vote on the current situation to raise the debt ceiling, I would choose not to raise it. The government must cut from somewhere in order to bring our financial house back in order. There are many areas that need to be considered. Please visit this link and read a student's perspective on the debt. Also read this article for as well. CNN The article that I am blogging about today deals with the question of whether Americans are willing to do jobs that immigrants currently take on. The article comes from the New York Times. I personally am not surprised that even though the unemployment rate in America is as high as it is, it is difficult to find workers to fill some of the most challenging jobs in America. I agree that Americans are soft and are unwilling to do tough work even when wages are competitive. As a nation we have become soft and are unwilling to put work in. It really is no surprise that immigrants, legally and illegally will make their way into our country so as to perform tasks that "real" Americans will not do. What do you think?
